OneCard metal credit card review — genuinely good or just good-looking?

A metal card feels good in your wallet. It looks expensive. OneCard says you can get that without paying a yearly fee. That sounds neat. So is this OneCard metal credit card review about real value — or mostly the flex?

Premium cards usually charge a big annual fee first. People also pick cards for looks, then realise points stay small, or extra charges sting on overseas spends, lost metal, or cancelling early. Below is what actually matters.

What OneCard actually is

OneCard is mobile‑first. FPL Technologies runs the OneCard app, and partner banks issue the card, as listed on OneCard FAQ (examples include Federal Bank, SBM Bank, CSB Bank, Indian Bank, South Indian Bank, BOBCARD, IDFC FIRST Bank — your approval letter decides which bank issues yours). Apply and control limits, modes, rewards, bill, EMIs mainly from the app.

What's genuinely good

  • Lifetime free positioning: No joining fee, no annual fee on the usual offer (OneCard, fee snapshot). That is rare for metal.
  • 5X rewards on your top two spend categories each month — the programme picks from how you actually spend. Details on OneCard FAQ. Fractional points, quick crediting, redemption from the app; no redemption fee in common aggregator copies.
  • Foreign spends: OneCard FAQ states about 1% currency conversion charge — billed as among the lower ones for mass-market plastic and metal rivals.
  • Safety: OTP rules for domestic online payments follow RBI expectations; OneCard mentions two‑factor norms on Indian merchants.

What’s easy to miss (read before you flex)

  • Metal is not automatically “zero upfront.” Fee tables on BankBazaar mention a separate metal issuance charge, steep replacement for metal, and cancellation fees if you quit very early. Live Mint made similar points — limited headline rewards, painful replacement-style costs.
  • Rewards are “smart”, not huge everywhere. The five-times bump applies to your top two categories, not flat high cashback on every swipe. Uneven spends can feel “normal” overall.
  • Lounges are not what this card sells. Want airport lounges often? Compare a different segment.
  • If you pay only the minimum due, interest on the rest is expensive. BankBazaar quotes about 3.49% per month on unpaid balances (roughly 42% a year). Pay the full bill on time to keep the card truly free in real life.
  • City and bank partner lists change. Check OneCard’s latest city list and FAQ before you count on approval.

Verdict

OneCard is genuinely strong if you want no annual fee, app control, lower international fees, and simple monthly rewards where you already spend most.

It is “just good-looking” if you wanted maximum cashback on every rupee or lounge status without reading issuance and replacement costs.

FAQ

Is OneCard really lifetime free in India?

Yes on the usual pitch: no joining fee and no annual fee on the standard offer. Separate metal issuance or replacement fees can still apply — check the BankBazaar fee table and your bank’s live terms.

What is the OneCard foreign currency fee?

OneCard’s FAQ states about 1% on international transactions. Always confirm on your statement and latest issuer document.

Does OneCard give airport lounge access?

Lounges are not the headline benefit of this product. If lounges matter most, compare travel-focused cards with lounge bundles.

Who issues OneCard in India?

Co-branded partner banks issue it; OneCard lists several on FAQ. The bank on your approval is the one whose rules apply for complaints and charge schedules.
